The mass drive involves clean-up as well as to preserve the natural environment of more than a dozen beaches in and around Port Blair. The event at Collinpur Beach was conducted on 01 Jul by the officers and men of Coast Guard Air Enclave Port Blair. Apart from the service personnel and their families, the event also witnessed enthusiastic participation of civilians. Approximately 200 kg of garbage was collected from a 400 meter stretch of Collinpur beach. The clean-up drive was planned during low tide, wherein the sea water recedes to the lowest level, thereby facilitating availability of maximum area for cleaning. The desired results of creating awareness were validated when motivated locals joined the service personnel in this noble cause. Inspector General KR Suresh Tatrakshak Medal, Commander, Coast Guard Region (Andaman & Nicobar) of Indian Coast Guard stressed upon the importance of preserving the fragile marine ecosystem in these pristine islands.
