Port Blair, June 30: The Authorities of National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited in a meeting held at the District Commissioner Office yesterday evening has assured the PRI Members of various Panchayats that the patch works of Andaman Trunk Road till Jirkatang will be completed within 10 days.
Yesterday morning most of the Panchayati Raj Members of Tushnabad, Brindavan, Mitha Khari, Humphrygunj with the residents of their village blocked the road at Ograbraj Junction to draw the attention of authorities to the poor condition of the ATR following which yesterday itself the NHIDCL started the maintenance work of the road.
However after the assurance of the Sub Divisional Magistrate the protest was called off yesterday and a meeting with the PRI Members was held yesterday evening at the District Commissioner Office.
The meeting was attended by the DC, Mr Udit Prakash Rai, SDM, Ms Mitali Goel, Alok Jha, Representative of NHIDCL and the PRI Members, in which the issue of ATR was discussed in detail.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Subir Chander, Zilla Parishad Member of Tushnabad Constituency said that during the meeting NHIDCL assured us that they will complete the patch works within 07-10 days and they have also assured that soon the tender will be called for the construction of ATR and the financial bid in three parts for the construction of ATR will be opened very shortly.
Further talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Anand Amrit Raj, Ex-Upadhyaksh of South Andaman Zilla Parishad said that during the meeting the NHIDCL assured to complete the patch works till Jirkatang within 10 days but for re-construction of entire ATR, the NHIDCL said that it will take some time.
Lastly talking to Andaman Sheekha over phone, the Sub Divisional Magistrate Ms Mitali Goel said that the entire meeting was very successful and the PRI Members were satisfied after they got the assurances from the NHIDCL representatives that the patch works till Jirkatang will get completed within 07-10 days. “The NHIDCL is committed to do the work,” Ms Mitali said.
