Rangat, June 25: Termed as a Modern Terminal, the STS Bus Terminus at Rangat in Middle Andaman is all about garbage, dirt, water logging and stench from urinals greeting hundreds of commuters on a daily basis.
The terminus stands as a perfect testimony of government apathy towards maintenance of public assets and services.
After two years the private buses were allowed into the bus stand which is a good step.
The ATR Night travelers are particularly harried as they are forced to bear the unhygienic conditions for hours before boarding the bus.
Clogged urinals, unclean wash basins, defunct fans, crumbling floor etc have made journey from the terminus a backbreaking routine for the passengers.
The clogged urinals, both Male and Female, make the wait even more upsetting. Dirt overflows from the urinals and accumulate on the floor. The unbearable stench emanating from the toilets further add to the woes.
As you can see, while shoes are drenched with human excrete passengers have to remain in this condition till the reach their destination.
The concrete floors have been damaged within two years of its construction. Such is the state that even a minor drizzle leads to water accumulation in the premise, The plastic pipes which are used for draining the water from the ceiling are already broken resulting the water to seepage directly into the bus stand. During the rainy season due to water clog the passengers forced to out of stand unless anyone seeps the water.
The administration should privatize the toilet facilities or deploy some staff exclusively for cleaning the same. People of North and Middle Andaman now feels that only a surprise visit of Lt. Governor can solve this problem as AC Rangat and the DC N & M Andaman are not even aware of this serious issue.
