Port Blair, June 18: The Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) of A & N Islands today organized a Blood Donation Camp to commemorate the birthday of Mr. Rahul Gandhi. The programme began at the Tiranga Park at 9.30 AM was intended to address the need of several units of blood at the G.B. Pant Hospital. At the inauguration, Pradesh Youth Congress President, Mr. John Robert Babu, received the Chief Guest, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, with a welcome shawl. Following this a welcome speech was delivered by the General Secretary PYC, Mr. Sebastian Tirkey and a motivational speech by Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
The President PYC, Mr. John Robert Babu opened the event by being the first person to donate blood. The programme continued through the morning and at the closing function it was declared that a total of 22 units of blood were collected. This drive was made possible by the contributions of the Pradesh Congress Committee, Directorate of Health Services, the Blood Bank and the PBMC councillors.
The PYC has also organized similar programmes in other islands too. In Car Nicobar an anti-plastic drive was launched, in which as reported by the Vice President PYC, Ms. Irene Mary, as many as 50 youth participated to make the island a plastic-free zone. Similarly in Diglipur members of the PYC distributed sweets in the schools.
