Port Blair, June 07: A volleyball tournament was organised by Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Mayabunder at Kalapahar Volleyball ground, Mayabunder on Sunday the 04th June, 2017 to commemorate Birsa Munda’s Martyrdom Day which falls on 09th June.
The team around Kalapahar village participated in the tournament. The tournament was inaugurated by Shri. Venkatrammna, Junior Engineer, APWD Diglipur Division, Chief Guest and Bramhachari Visweshwar Chaitanyaji, Chinmaya Mission, Diglipur with paying floral tribute to the portrait of great freedom tribal fighter Birsa Munda.
The match was played with great enthusiasm even the rain made hindrance on that day. Kalapahar Team stood runner up position and Austin-II Team secured Winner position, both the team was awarded with the Trophy and cash prizes by Andaman Sai Seva Samiti. Each player of winning team was awarded with special prizes and Shri. Ranjit Kishore Toppo swiped as player of the tournament.
Shri. Venkatrammna, Chief Guest urged the youths to come forward to shine in sports activities and enlighten others to do so for the country. Bramhachari Visweshwar Chaitanyaji, Chinmaya Mission in his benedictory note spoke about the importance of sports and said sports not only keeps youths physically healthy but also mentally fit and happy mind creates interest and concentration in all types of work. While in the said tournament, a volleyball alongwith the net and football were presented by Shri. Sobran Majhi, State Sports Incharge of Vanvasi Kalayan Ashram to the home team of Kalapahar Village, which was sponsored by the District Administration of North & Middle Andaman District. The overall programme was coordinated by Shri. Ram Kumar Singh, Secretary, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Mayabunder and the tournament concluded with the declaration of results and prize distribution by Shri. Jagat Ram Baraik, Treasurer, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Mayabunder.
