Port Blair, June 05: As a part of Environment Day celebrations Indian Coast Guard conducted a plantation drive on 05 Jun 2017 at Coast Guard Premises at Port Blair with an aim of creating enthusiasm among masses towards forest conservation. The tree plantation drive was followed by a lecture from Shri Naveen Kumar P, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forests & Wildlife on bio-diversity of flora & fauna in the A & N Islands and initiatives taken by forest department towards conservation of biospheres in these Islands. He also appreciated Coast Guard for their assistance to achieve this goal. The event culminated with an address of the Chief Guest for the event, Inspector General KR Suresh, Tatrakshak Medal , Commander, Coast Guard Region(A&N). He emphasised on involvement of everyone to provide better environment to coming generations. Being educated and responsible citizens it’s our obligation, not to further harm environment and handover environment in same or better state to the future generations. He further reiterated that the effort should be from one and all towards educating the next generation about preserving the environment and reducing the carbon footprint by encouraging the reduction in consumption of plastic and paper. He also assured the forest department to extend all out efforts and help from Coast Guard towards conservation of the environment and biospheres in A&N Islands.
