Port Blair, Jun 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the drive for door to door collection with segregation at source level in the entire Port Blair city was launched by Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi today.
At a function held near Gandhi Park here this morning, the Lt. Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, in the presence of the Member of Parliament, Shri. Bishnu Pada Ray, Chairperson, PBMC Shri. B. Eshwar Rao, other dignitaries, Officials and staffs of PBMC, administered pledge for segregation of waste in twin bins i.e wet waste in green bin and dry waste in blue bin.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Lt Governor requested the citizens of Port Blair city to help Port Blair Municipal Council by segregating waste at source level. Municipal Worker shall collect segregated waste at door step. This was followed by a signature campaign to promote segregation of dry and wet waste in the Port Blair city.
Later, the Lt. Governor flagged off the waste collection team of Port Blair Municipal Council to kick start the collection of segregated waste.
