Port Blair, June 01: The Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration has observed “WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY” with theme of “Tobacco-a threat to development” in A&N Islands along with the rest of country on 31st of May 2017, 10.30 am at the Auditorium of Industrial Training Institute, Dolly Gunj, Port Blair. The students, faculties of ITI, Medical Officers, Para Medical Staffs and General public were participated in the programme. The programme started with lightning of traditional oil lamp by Chief Guest and others dignitaries.
Dr. Navin Govind, Deputy Director (HE&FW), Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration welcomes the gatherings. In his welcome address he highlighted the importance of the day and urged every individual to avoid consumption of tobacco products. He also requested all Medical & Para Medical staff to create awareness about ill effects of consumption of tobacco products to make the A&N Islands “Tobacco free”.
Dr. S.K. Kathpalia, Director I/c , ANIIMS, A&N Islands was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, Dr. S.K. Kathpalia, Director I/c , ANIIMS, A&N Islands explained in detail about ill effects of consumption of Tobacco products. He also explained about second hand smoking which harm to non smokers. He appealed to the general public to avoid consumption of Tobacco products for betterment of their health and development of nation through a informative power point presentation.
Shri Venkateshwar Rao, Principal, Industrial Training Institute, Dolly Gunj, Port Blair also shared his experience about tobacco and its ill effects , He also appealed to the students and general public to avoid tobacco products and join hand to make Islands tobacco free.
In the occasion a Nukkad Natak was performed by Aditiya Natiya Academy on the theme of the day “tobacco- a threat to development”
The Programme was ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Smt. Vasantha Devi, HEO I/c, State Health Education Bureau, Directorate of Health Services, Port Blair.
