Port Blair, May 26: The nine day long Open Volleyball League-cum-Knockout Tournament organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs for the benefit of the people of these islands at the Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Kanyapuram, Wimberlygunj has been concluded on 25th May 2017.
A large number of people including sports lovers gathered at the Indoor Stadium to witness the tough competitions among the volleyball players. Altogether 18 teams participated. In the final play held yesterday afternoon, YFC, Haddo team defeated Garacharma Team by 22-25,25-10,21-25, 25-19 & 15-09.
Shri A K Trivedi, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs was the Chief Guest on the occasion he has presented the Trophy to the winning team. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Trivedi congratulated the winning team for demonstrating their talents and excellent performance to obtain the trophy through a tough competition between the two teams.
He also congratulated all other players who participated in the Volley ball tournaments and urged them to come forward with more vigourness in a competitive mood and spirit so that the same will be attracted by the public enthusiastically.
Smt Latha Trivedi was the Guest of Honour on the occasion and Miss Mariam Bibi, former Chairperson, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman was the guest of honour in this concluding function.
In this connection it may be recalled that the Opening ceremony of this tournament was inaugurated by Smt. Tanvi Garg, Secretary (Sports) on 17th May, 2017 and she lauded the efforts of the Departments to organize such tournaments.
