Port Blair, May 26: As part of the stringent actions against the defaulters selling, storage and distributing contraband tobacco products, 25 kgs of tobacco leafs and 890 pouches of Bhagwan brand zarda (40 gms each) have been seized from one Shri. Anchar Sardar, R/o 24-Parganas, Kolkata and Shri. Shoyebbhai Mohammed Musabhai R/o Manggadh, Gujarat respectively on 25.05.2017. The accused have been booked under relevant section of Food Safety & Standards Act 2006. The case was conducted on a fast track basis and imposed a penalty of Rs. 12,500/- and Rs.15,000/- respectively on both the offenders.
In another case, on 21.05.2017, Shri. A. Sayed Ibrahim, S/o Late Abdul Karim, R/o Havelock has been caught and recovered 166 pouches of Bhagwan brand zarda(40 gms each). The case was also conducted on a fast track mode and imposed a fine of Rs.11,000/-. All the penalties have been realized from the accused.
General public is hereby requested to pass on contraventions found if any on food safety to the Commissioner of Food Safety, A&N Islands at No. 03192-231024/9434280018 or on District Control Room No.1070 for strict actions against violators.
