Port Blair, Apr 05: Like every year, the Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration will observe “World Health Day” on 7th April,2017 with the theme “Depression : Let’s talk” in A& N Islands along with rest of the world to create awareness about Depression and its prevention.
Depression is a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, decreased energy, feelings of guilt or low self worth, disturbed sleep or appetite and poor concentration. Moreover, depression often comes with symptoms of anxiety. Depression can happen to anybody and it often strikes at an adolescent age. It causes mental anguish and affects person’s ability to carry out every day task.
In order to mark the occasion Health Department will organise awareness programme on 7th April, 2017 throughout A &N Islands for prevention and management of depression involving PRIs, Paramedical Personnel, AWWs, Youth Clubs, Students and ASHAs to create awareness among the general public about depression and its associate mental disorder.
The State level function will be organised at Panchayat Samiti Hall, Ferrargunj, South Andaman on 7th April, 2017 at 10.30 am. On the occasion Dr. Sunil Kumar, Consultant, Dept. of Psychiatry, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair will deliver his valuable talks on Depression and its associate mental Disorders.
