Port Blair, Mar 30: The Directorate of sports and youth affairs Andaman and Nicobar Administration today organized National Young Leaders Programme Award Ceremony for the year 2015-16 in Govt. Model Senior secondary school auditorium. Two NSS units were felicitated on the occasion for the outstanding work in the field of Shramdhan activities (voluntary manual labour).The NSS unit No.1 of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya won the first prize which carries Rs 30,000/-, and a certificate while the NSS unit of Govt. Model senior secondary school won the second prize carrying Rs. 25000/- and a certificate. Dr. Kandimuthu Assistant professor and programme officer of JNRM and Shri. R.K.Singh Programme officer from Model school received the award. Shri A.K.Trivedi,Joint-Secretary Higher Education Andaman and Nicobar administration was the chief guest of the ceremony while Dr.N.Francis Xavier ,Principal JNRM was the guest of honour.
Earlier the Principal Govt. Model SSS Shri Sharachandran Nair presented the welcome address. Dr.Kandimuthu programme coordinator NSS spoke on national young leaders programme and the award. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Shri R.K.Singh PGT, Economics, and programe officer, Model School. Shri H.Nathaneil Deputy Education officer South Andaman who was the special guest also spoke on the importance of youth participation and NSS activities. Shri Kundan Lall .district youth coordinator NYK South Andaman was also present on the occasion. The Chief Guest and other guests speaking on the occasion appreciated both NSS Units, the programme officers and the volunteers who have been involved in doing Shramdhan activities. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest Shri A.K.Trivedi said such voluntary activities help NSS Volunteers to develop their personality and leadership qualities and promote the spirit of dignity of labour, he also presented trophies to the principal of JNRM and the principal of Model School for winning the first and second prizes respectively.
