Port Blair, Mar 29: It has come to the notice of the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs that many Hoteliers, Bar-cum-restaurants and retail sellers are selling packaged drinking water beyond the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on the packages, which is violation of the provision contained in the Legal Metrology (Packaged commodities) Rules, 2011 framed under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. Taking into cognizance of such unfair trade practices, all concerned are hereby advised to refrain themselves from excess charging of any packaged commodities including packaged drinking water failing which, stringent legal action, as deemed fit, shall be initiated against them.
It is appealed to all the consumers that in case of any complaints regarding violation in weights & measure may be brought to notice in writing to the Directorate of Civil Supplies & Consumers Affairs, Port Blair. The consumers can also lodge their complaint over Toll free Phone No. 18003453197.
