Port Blair, Mar 21: An Eye screening camp was conducted for the Onge Tribes of Dugong Creek and other general public at PHC R.K Pur and PHC Hut Bay last month to provide specialist coverage to the needy patients. The camp was headed by Dr. Anita Shah, Eye Specialist/JS (NPCB), GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair with the team of Sr. Ophthalmic Assistant, GBPH, Ophthalmic Assistant and ANMS from PHCs.
Altogether 26 Onge patients with eye aliment attended the camp at PHC RK Pur, out of which 06 cases of refractive error were detected and free glasses will be provided by the NPCB, 03 cases of cataract were identified and referred to GB Pant Hospital for further management. Necessary medicines were issued to the needy Onge patients.
Similarly as many, as 347 patients attended the camp at PHC RK Pur and PHC Hut Bay. Of them, 98 cases prescribed for use of glasses, 29 cataract cases were referred to GB Pant Hospital for surgery, 46 cases of other eye ailments were referred to GB Pant Hospital Port Blair for further management and 166 cases of various eye disease were treated and provided medicine.
