Port Blair, Mar 21: On Saturday the 18.03.2017 at 11.00 A.m. Shri BishnuPada Ray Member of Parliament, A & N Islands has laid the foundation stone for improvement & widening of State Highway from the existing width of 03.00 mtrs to 05.50 mtrs width for total length of 10 kilometers road from Wright Myo to Shoal Bay No.15 under the Central Road Fund Sanctioned by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway, New Delhi.
On this occasion, apart from the official of the APWD, Shri Bashir, Pradhan, ManarghatPanchayat, SmtiMeriPuspa, Pradhan, Shoal Bay Panchayat, Shri Sandip Biswas, Pramukh, PachayatSamity F/Gunj and prominent villagers were also present during the occasion.
This stretch of road was declared as State Highway sometime in the year of 2006 and since then the road was laying un- attended for its widening & improvement as per the norms of State Highway for want of fund. However, in the public interest, Shri Ray, has taken all possible efforts for obtaining the Central Road Fund from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway. After ample efforts of Shri Ray, M.P of A & N Islands, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has sanctioned an amount of Rs: 09.00 Crores. APWD has invited quotation through the E-tendering process which is more transparent & corruption free process. Out of the various Firms, the lowest rate quoted by M/S CSE Construction for Rs: 07.51 Crores has been found lowest for acceptance. Thus, saving of fund for Rs: 01.49 Crores.
