I am pleased to learn that the International Day of Forests is being observed in these Islands alongwith rest of the country and world on 21st March, 2017. On this occasion, I extend my best wishes to all the people of these Islands and compliment them for their profound concern and support in maintaining the rich forest cover of these Islands.
Forests are not only our prized possession but also are guarantee for life on our mother Earth by providing proper life supporting environment. Many interdependent species of plants and animals dwell beneath the forest canopies which play essential roles in maintaining the balance in nature. Though we are fortunate enough to be blessed with one of the richest forests, we should also understand that the ecosystem of our Islands is very fragile. We are committed to safeguard the forest wealth of our Islands for sustainable development and a healthy livable environment for posterity.
I urge the people of these Islands to realize the importance of all types of forests, and trees outside forests, for the benefit of contemporary and future generations.
On this day, let us re-dedicate ourselves to the cause of forestry and do our best to preserve and conserve the rich biodiversity of our Islands and support the Administration in this endeavor.
