
Port Blair, Mar 19: Myanmar Navy Ship UMS King Kyan Sit Thar commanded by Cdr Moe Myint called at Port Blair on 18 March for the closing ceremony of the 5th Indo-Myanmar coordinated patrol, IMCOR, at the Andaman and Nicobar Command. The Myanmar delegation was led by Commodore Kyaw Shwe Tun, Commander of Panmawaddy Naval Region Command, who called on the CINCAN on 18 Mar 17. Bilateral issues were also discussed during the meeting.
The UMS King Kyan Sit Thar and UMS 563 of Myanmar Navy undertook a coordinated patrol with INS Karmuk and INS Bangaram commanded by Cdr Vikas Sood and Cdr Bikas Singh Nayal, respectively, from 12-18 March. The ships patrolled the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) between the two countries and covered a distance of approximately 725 kms. They also carried out manoeuvres and various drills during the patrol.
The initiative between the two navies is meant to address issues of terrorism, illegal fishing, drug trafficking, human trafficking, poaching and other illegal activities inimical to interest of both nations. Started in March 2013, the event has witnessed a close professional interaction between the two navies and serves to enhance the understanding between two navies.
