Port Blair, Mar 16: As part of various schemes and project for empowerment of women, the Ministry of Labour & Employment has passed a bill for maternity benefit (Amendment) bill 2016 in the Parliament for the benefit of working mother of every establishment for enabling them to recuperate herself before resuming back to duty.
The instant order of the Ministry is facilitating major benefits to the working mothers like the benefit of maternity leave is admissible to working mothers of every establishment; The working mothers for first two children are admissible for maternity leave for 26 weeks instead of 180 days; Maternity leave of 12 weeks are also available for the working mothers adopting a child of three months; Working mothers beyond the first two children are also available maternity leave for 12 weeks; The establishment more than 50 employees to provide “Crèche” facilities for working mother to feed their child for 04 times during working hours; The working mother may be permitted to work from home/residence and these benefits are applicable to women employee from the time of her appointment.
Consequent upon that Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament, A & N Islands expressed his gratitude to Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Bandaru Dattatraya, the Minister of Labour & Employment and Smti. Menaka Gandhi, the Minister of Women & Child Development for taking ample efforts to pass the bill in Lok Sabha as well as in Rajya Sabha to enhance the benefits to working mothers for taking care of their baby for six months after the birth.
