Port Blair, Mar 09: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Ms V. K. Mariyam Bibi, former Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad South Andaman felicitated two brave young college going students namely Mr Shakeel , R/o Stewartgunj and Mr Arun Kumar ,R/o Shorepoint with a shawl and a cash prize at Wimberlygunj Community Hall.
She chose Women’s Day for felicitating two boys because taking life risk they have saved a mother and her baby girl who fell into the mid sea from a ferry boat plying from Chatham to Bambooflat on 15 .02. 2017 and set an example of being savior of the lives of women.
Andaman Sheekha had highlighted this issue on 21 February 2017.
She appealed the other youths to come forward to shoulder their social responsibility towards womenfolk. Ms Mariyam Bibi also told them to be chivalrous throughout their lives which will inspire other boys too.
In her brief address she intimated the gathering that necessary action has already been taken by her and the PRI’s to get the noble deed of these boys acknowledged by the AN Administration and hopes her appeal will get fruitful results.
She also appreciated the local media which has already placed the news before the general public. The mothers of both brave boys were also present on the occasion.
Public of South Andaman region lauded Ms. Mariyam Bibi for organizing such function to honour local brave hearts as local Administration hardly has any mechanism to identify, acknowledge or honor such brave persons.
