Port Blair, Mar 08: It is for the information of general public and electricity consumers of Port Blair and South Andaman that 01 DG set of 5 MW capacity at IPP Surychakra Power Plant, Bambooflat suffered major damages due to fire accident on 05.11.2016. As a result, there is shortfall of around 5 MW power during evening peak hours from 1745 hours to 2245 hours.
The Electricity Department has been exercising load shedding during evening peak hours since 05.11.2016 to fill the 5 MW shortage of power. Presently, the collective generation from all the power plants (departmental as well as private) during evening hours is to the tune of 31-32 MW against a peak demand of about 36-37 MW, thereby creating a shortfall around 5 MW. Rotational load shedding of 45 minutes on alternate day basis during evening hours from 1745 hours to 2245 hours is carried out to fulfill the gape in generation.
In additional whenever some DG sets are stopped during day hours for maintenance work, additional load shedding for 45 minutes is also carried out on as and when required basis at day time.
However, during CBSE Board Examination starting from 09th March, 2017 onwards all the examination centers in Port Blair and South Andaman will be provided uninterrupted power supply, during examination period i.e. from 9 AM to 2 PM, all the examination days.
During the examination period load shedding if required in days hours will be carried out in other areas and all the examination center will be provided with uninterrupted power supply.
The 5 MW damaged DG set Suryachakra Power Plant at Bambooflat is expected to be repaired and put back in operation by 15th April, 2017, thereby eliminating load shedding totally.
