
Port Blair, Feb 26: Showing its commitment to safety of mariners at sea the Indian Coast Guard has once again saved a precious life from high sea.
On 25 February 2017 Indian Coast Guard unit of Andaman and Nicobar region got a message from vessel MT Afra Hawthorn requesting for immediate Medical Evacuation of Indian Patient who was suffering from acute abdominal pain and associated disorders.
As per detail the vessel, a Motor Tanker, was enroute from Egypt to Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia) and was present at a distance of 45 NM South West of Campbell Bay.
“On receiving such distress call, Coast Guard Interceptor Boat sailed immediately from Campbell region of Great Nicobar Island of Andaman and Nicobar Chain, to evacuate the patient from the Motor Tanker,” Commandant Ajay Sood, the Public Relations Officer of Coast Guard Region (A&N) informed media today.
In the meantime Coast Guard Medical Officer provided Tele-medical advice.
At about 1150 hrs on 25 February, Coast Guard Interceptor Boat evacuated the patient at high sea.
“The patient Mr. Tejinder Singh was provided first aid and medical assistance and was brought to Campbell Bay region of Great Nicobar Island, the Southern Most territory of India,” Commandant Sood added.
On arrival the patient was transferred to Primary Health Centre, Campbell Bay for further treatment.
“The condition of patient reported stable,” the PRO confirmed.
