Port Blair, Feb 22: A work namely – “Construction of Community Toilet near Smti. B.Jogamma house at North Bay Ward No-02 at Gram Panchayat Hope Town under MGNREGA, Ferrargunj Block” commenced on 22.02.2017. The work commenced after ceremonial puja was performed at the work site by village elders in the presence Of Shri Udit Prakash Rai IAS, District Programme Coordinator (Deputy Commissioner), MGNREGA, South Andaman, Shri Rajender Pal, Senior Programme Officer, MGNREGA, Ferrargunj Block, Shri P. Madhusudan Rao, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Hopetown, Shri Shyamnathan, Panchayat Samity Member, Hopetown, Smti Serofina Kerketta, Up Pradhan, Hopetown, B.Ponnaiah, Ward Member, North Bay No-2, other PRI members, MGNREGA and Panchayat officials and village members. The work will be completed at a cost of Rs 5,32,974/-( Rupees Five Lakh thirty two thousand Nine hundred and seventy four only). The work will be executed by the MGNREGA Job Card Holders. The community toilet block will house four seats. The asset will be handed over to the nearby community members by the Gram Panchayat upon completion for its use and maintenance.
Speaking on the occasion District Programme Coordinator, MGNREGA, South Andaman District exhorted the beneficiaries to make full use of the facility when completed. He fixed a timeline of three months for completion of the Community Toilet Block from the date of commencement of the work. He further said that projects like this will help the villages in attaining Open Defecation Free Status within a fixed time frame. He requested the community members to keep the facility hygienic and clean so that all members use it.
Later on the Deputy Commissioner visited other areas of the Gram Panchayat to take stock of the issues raised by the Pradhan and issued necessary directions to the PRI’s and the officials concerned.
