Diglipur, Feb 08: ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair organised a one day training cum awareness programme on “High Yielding Varieties of Rice and pulse and their crop management for seed production” on 2nd Feb., 2017 at Ramnagar Gram Panchayat, North & Middle Andaman. In this occasion, Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, and Dr. P. K. Singh, Principal Scientists of the Institute coordinated the programme.
Dr. P. K. Singh delivered lecture on HYV’s of rice, maize, brinjal and their seed production and crop management. He also answered to the queries raised by the farmers with reference to pulse cultivation. Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed through interactive lecture stressed on importance of spices and its cultivation under the climatic condition of A&N Islands. Both the scientists exhorted the farmers to go for seed treatment before taking the crop to the main field in order to manage seed borne disease.
Shri Niranjan Barla, Sarpanch, Shri Benjamin Barla and Niranjan Mistry, Members alongwith Shri Santosh Kumar, AFA, Department of Agriculture & Shri Siba Mahato, SRF (ORC) also spoke on the occasion.
HYV’s seedlings/saplings of spices viz; nutmeg, cinnamon, clove and brinjal seeds of bacterial wilt resistant variety CARI B-1 were distributed to the farmers.
At the outset Shri Ganesh Majhi, Chief Volunteer, Evergreen Farmers Club welcomed the farmers and the guest and expressed his happiness on the conduct of the programme which has benefitted the farmers of the locality. A total of 55 farmers were sensitized during the training programme, which was organized in collaboration with Out Reach Centre, Diglipur under guidance of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director and Dr. R.K. Gautam, Head, Division of FCI&P, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
