Mayabunder, Feb 08: A three days training programme on “Management of Emerging Diseases in Animals” was organized by ICAR-KVK, CIARI, N & M Andaman for In-service candidates at the Conference Hall, Office of the DFO, Mayabunder. The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Smt. K. Nachikamma, Pramukh, Mayabunder; Pradhan, Mayabunder; Smt. Lata Hegde, Assistant Chief Conservator of Forest; Dr. Manmohan Roy, Senior Veterinary officer, Mayabunder; Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Senior Veterinary Officer, Basantipur; Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, N & M Andaman. In her Inaugural address, Pramukh, Mayabunder highlighted the importance of the programme for the officials and advised the Krishi Vighyan Kendra to organize more such programme. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Head /Course Director, KVK discussed on the issues related to management of emerging infectious diseases. Dr. Manmohan Roy, SVO, Mayabunder dealt with topic related to scenario of emerging livestock diseases in India. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS Fisheries delivered lecture on the management of emerging fish diseases. In the three days training programme, Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Science)/ Course Coordinator will discuss on the various factors affecting the emergence and re-emergence of diseases in Animals. Dr. Inderjit Kaur will deal with concept related to preparation and response for the emerging infectious diseases. About 20 officials selected from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Department of Environment and Forest, and Panchayat Samiti will benefit from this programme. This programme is being conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr. B. L. Kashinath, Senior scientist and Head, KVK and Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI.
