Port Blair, Jan 30: In order to sensitize the private boat operators on fire prevention and to avoid any major fire mishap, the A&N Fire Service Training Centre has imparted a special training class to the participants of the course “General Purpose Rating (Existing)”(GPR) under Inland Vessel (IV) Rules, which undergoing in BRAIT, Dollygunj, Port Blair on “First Aid Fire Fighting & Safety aspects” to combat the situation in case of any eventuality while sailing of boat, Home and public places on 30/01/2017. A live demonstration by setting real fire in various scenarios was created and the techniques of extinguishing on reaching of Water Tender with sophisticated appliances like Breathing Apparatus Set etc. and by using various types of fire extinguishers like Water Co2, Mechanical Foam (AFFF), Co2 and Dry Chemical Powder was also conducted by involving the participants at Fire Service (HQs), Port Blair.
In the inaugural function, Shri. B. Saigal, Dy. Superintendent of Police (Fire Service), A&N Islands was present and briefed the participants about the important role, if there is any fire hazard, safety aspects and methods of prevention. He also reiterated that the boat operators having vital role to respond to any disaster or fire mishap without any panic especially on sailing of boat with passengers. Further, he appealed to the participants to utilize the knowledge and experience gained during the training session in case of any eventuality.
The Course Co-ordinator, Captain Rohit Lal expressed his satisfaction for conducting such training programme by A&N Fire Service Training Centre and appealed the participants to respond proactively in any mishap. Altogether, 28 boat operators had attended the training session.
