Port Bair, 21 Jan: The Indian Naval Ship Saryu of the Andaman and Nicobar Command celebrated its 4th Anniversary on 21st January 2017. As part of the celebrations, a voluntary blood donation camp themed ‘21 Donors for 21 Jan’ was organised on board the ship, in coordination with GB Pant Hospital and A&N Aids Control Society (ANACS). The Camp was inaugurated by Air Commodore RS Upadhyay, Chief Staff Officer (Medical), Headquarters Andaman and Nicobar Command. 31 volunteers donated blood in a short span of two hours of the Camp.
This initiative further helped in spreading awareness and removing the misconceptions associated with blood donation. Since the hospitals at Port Blair including INHS Dhanvantari and GB Pant cater to the extensive requirements of blood across the A&N Islands, such an initiative by these ‘men-in-white’ will go a long way in encouraging people to come forward and regularly donate blood.
