
Port Blair, Jan 12: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration conducted an awareness-cum-sensitization programme on Disaster Management & Preparedness of ANI for officers and staff of Secretariat, A&N Administration in the Conference Hall of Secretariat, Port Blair on 12th January, 2017.
With sharing of past experience working in Relief Operations of Tsunami 2004 by Shri Anindo Majumdar, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, appreciated the initiatives and efforts of the Disaster Management to build up the capacity building towards disasters and to organize this types of programmes in all the Govt. Departments to create awareness and preparedness in each and every Govt. Employees of this UT. He further stated that the Disaster Management is not only the part of the departments, it is required to be known by every Islanders of this UT to save themselves and others.
Shri T.K.S Ajayan, Assistant Director (Ops), DM briefed about the risk, hazards, vulnerability profile of A&N Islands. He also added that, Andaman & Nicobar Islands are highly susceptible to disasters of varied intensities that we cannot prevent this natural phenomenon (disasters) to happen but definitely with a holistic and a meticulous approach & plan we could reduce or minimize the impact of disasters. He also highlighted the disaster preparedness, plan, response, mitigation and capacity building of this territory.
