Port Blair, Jan 08: C. P. R. Environmental Education Centre is a Centre of Excellence in Environmental Education of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India in collaboration with WIPRO – Earthian and the Science Wing, Directorate of Education, has taken up a Sustainability Education Programme in South Andaman schools. The programme involves innovative project submissions on sustainability of water and biodiversity by groups of students guided by a teacher.
CPREEC with its outreach in South Andaman oriented 100 teachers from 50 schools through 2 workshops. 54 project submissions were received from the participating schools. Among the 54 projects, 12 projects were selected by a competent committee for state level and recommended to national level. The 12 winning projects teams from schools are Vitala Public School Hope Town, GSSS. Haddo (H&T), Kamaraj English Medium School Brookshabad, Navy Children School Minnie Bay, Carmel Sr. Secondary School and Ummat Public School, Austinabad. All the projects submitted will receive participation certificates for students and guide teachers.
C.P.R Environmental Education Centre, Chennai, in association with the WIPRO Earthian has also awarded the best project submissions at the regional level and confers Regional Winners-2016 in Andaman & Nicobar Islands through a Regional Recognition Event. All awarded teachers and students were given a Regional Winner Certificate and the memento for the school.
The regional recognition event was organized on 06.11.2017 at conference hall of Govt. Model sr. Sec. School, Port Blair. Shri. Amit Anand IFS, Director, Department of Tourism was the Chief Guest. Shri. Amit conferred the Regional Award for the winners in the presence of Shri. H. Nathanial, Deputy Education Officer, South Andaman, Shri.Abhijit Zacharia, Senior Manager, Environmental Education, Wipro, Bangalore and Shri. Shara Chandran, Principal, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair.
Dr. Kiruba Sankar, Scientist, CIARI, welcomed the gathering. Mr. A. Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC briefed about the Earthian & Regional Recognition Event and thanked the audience.
