Mayabunder, Dec 21: Businessmen of Mayabunder and Kolkata region who were expecting cargo at Mayabunder Port this morning via MV Nicobar ship, had a horrible time, as the manual checking of Cargo by Food Safety and Police took several long hours.
As per reports as the scanning machine at Mayabunder Port was out of order, the Food Safety and Police team decided to check all cargo goods manually. Soon the team started opening cargo packages one by one and then sealing it back.
This left businessmen, who came to collect cargo fuming, as all the packets were opened and repacked in disorderly manner. They alleged that some of the goods suffered damaged in this process of manual checking. Some businessmen who came from distant locations were asked to come tomorrow morning to collect cargo, which triggered more anger.
Businessmen alleged that despite having a scanning machine the goods are opened by security staffs, which is not justified. As per details the scanning machines at Mayabunder jetty is not working since a long time for which now general public are harassed.
