
Port Blair, Dec 16: The Coast Guard Region (A&N) conducted the Coast Guard Half Yearly District Commander Conference (HYDCC) to review Operational/ Maintenance Philosophy and Infrastructure & Project developments for the growth of Coast Guard at A&N, envisaged in future. The HYDCC was presided over by Inspector General Kuldip Singh Sheoran, PTM, TM, the Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N). The conference was attended by all Coast Guard District/ Station Commanders of the A & N Region and all Commanding Officers of Coast Guard Ships and Establishments.
The Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) in his opening address appreciated the efforts and solidarity shown by Officers and men of Coast Guard for their whole hearted commitment towards operational and administrative support extended to Civil Administration during cyclone “VARDAH”. Further, the Commander emphasised the efforts by ICGS Kanaklata Barua, ICGS Rajveer and other District/Station Commanders whilst undertaking “OPS MADAD” that resulted in saving of about 300 lives stranded in Havelock Island and other areas. The Commander also brought out the fact that the Coast Guard Region (A&N) has increased surveillance during last one year and was instrumental in saving 51 lives at sea, 04 medical evacuations and 94 Community Interaction Programmes were conducted towards enhancing awareness amongst fishermen in the remote islands of A&N. He also highlighted the gains accrued and revalidation of Standard Operating Procedures during recently concluded Coastal Security Exercise “SAGAR KAVACH” that witnessed active participation by all stakeholders. He stated that exercises of such nature would result in plugging up the voids in Coastal security and would augment our preparedness towards the threats by adversaries.
