Port Blair, Dec 04: These days there is no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power shutdowns for the residents of Mayabunder.
Residents of Mayabunder region have been put to hardship for long hours as a result of the unscheduled power cuts. The power cuts are usually 5 to 6 hours long and this is continuing since last three days, it is leant.
Public allege that since last three days there is no one in electricity department even to answer the calls of public.
“The JE of this area is on leave and mobile numbers of all other officers of the department are out of reachable area or they are simply not attending calls of public,” said an angry resident of the area.
Besides causing difficulty to the general public, long hour disruption of supply affected functioning of the hospitals and various other private organisations of the area. “Power cuts in the evening and night has become a routine affair. How do we expect children to study if the Electricity Department constantly cuts power in the evening? Pramod a resident of Mayabunder Bazaar said.
Another resident of Mayabunder Bazaar said “Every day there is power cut at least for more than 6 hour and most of the times it is unscheduled. If we call to make complaints, the phone line is always engaged. It becomes very difficult. Mosquitoes kill us every time there is power cut in the night.”
Andaman Sheekha also tried to contact the Senior officers of the Electricity Department of the Mayabunder region to know the reason behind these power cuts but the telephone numbers of the officers were not reachable.
