Port Blair, Dec 02: Disaster Awareness Campaign was organized for staff and officers of Forest Department to sensitize on disaster management at Van Sadan, Haddo on 02.12.2016.
Shri T.K.S. Ajayan, Assistant Director (Ops.), DM presented the overall vulnerability profile of A&N Islands and preparedness of the Administration to tackle any disaster. He further emphasized on emergency communication system presently working in this UT. Shri John William of Forest Department shared the Tsunami 2004 experiences of Car Nicobar with the DM Officers.
Shri Gyan Singh, Assistant Director (Log.), DM has interacted with the Officers & Staff about the preparedness of Forest Department and stressed them that every staff/officers should known about Standard Operation Procedure of the department/division/range/camps of forest areas and this type of disaster awareness and preparedness programmes would be more helpful to them to respond to any threatening disasters/emergencies.
Shri Deen Mohammed, Safety Officer elaborated about the functions of State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and EOCs. He also emphasized on the need to keep disaster kit in each household which should contain important documents and other articles like torch, radio, some drinking water, biscuits etc.
