Port Blair, Nov 21: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (CIARI), Nimbudera conducted 05 days training on “Rearing of stunted fingerlings under composite fish farming” sponsored by National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad for farmers of N&M Andaman at Gram Panchayat Hall,
Basantipur. The training was inaugurated by Shri Saw Tathu, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad, N&M Andaman in presence of Up-Pradhan and PRI members, Basantipur. In his inaugural speech the Chief Guest expressed that trainings and practical demonstrations on scientific fish cultivation will improve skills of fish farmers thereby enhancing farm productivity for better family income. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) briefed about the content of 5 days training and urged the
farmers and participants to adopt scientific method of fish farming for higher yield and income. Dr. B. L. Kasinath highlighted the role of KVK for empowering famers and spoke on importance of integrated farming system for meeting the requirement of nutritional security.
Experts of KVK had explained theory and practical on different aspects of Rearing of stunted fingerlings under composite fish farming. Detail aspects of nursery and grow out pond preparation, stocking and post stocking management, feed preparation and feeding of fish, fish fry rearing in paddy field & broad bed furrow system, important soil and water quality parameter and common diseases of fish in pond were discussed by KVK specialists. Fish seed production and feeding of
fish in nursery was dealt by Shri S. K. Talukder, Asst. Director (Fisheries), N&M Andaman, he also highlighted on various schemes being implemented by fisheries department. On the request of fish farmers hatchery and grow out technology of freshwater prawn was covered during the technical session of training programme. Visuals were also showed to the participants on scientific fish farming and fish seed production technologies developed by ICAR Institutes. Exposure visits at fields of progressive and innovative famers in Diglipur and farm of Veterinary department at Sitanagar was arranged for the participants.
In the concluding function of the training programme Shri S. K. Taluker was presided as the chief guest, in his concluding remarks he requested the farmers to adopt scientific technologies in their field for higher productivity. Participants expressed their satisfaction about the training programme. The training was co-ordinated by Dr. Shailesh Kumar under the guidance and supervision of Dr. B. L. Kasinath and Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, Port Blair. A total of 28 farmers participated in the training programme covering Rangat and Mayabunder Tehsils. Earlier, Smt. Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Science) welcomed the Chief Guest, dignitaries and participants and Dr. B. L. Meena (Agronomy) proposed the vote of thanks.
