Port Blair, Nov 18: Mock Drills on Earthquake and Tsunami conducted on 18/11/2016 in all Govt. & Pvt. Schools of Port Blair and South Andaman Educational Zone by Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with Education Department.
The Mock Drills started at 1000 Hrs. on 18th November, 2016 alongwith the blasting of test Sirens of test and the schools rang the school bell in continue manner and all the students were carried out “DUCK-COVER and HOLD” position for few minutes for earthquake safety and then safely evacuated to an identified safer places. After completion of head counting of students, the Search & Rescue teams started rescued the injured/victims from the classes and immediate medical first aid have been provided to them by the MFR Teams of the schools. The schools carried out all the activities during the mock exercise to test and check the readiness of their School Disaster Management Plan and to knowhow the role and responsibilities during the time of disaster for improving it further for strengthening disaster preparedness in schools.
The observation team of Directorate of Disaster Management and Education observed the mock drills at Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Bathu Basti, Garacharma, Boys School and the Team of National Disaster Response Force demonstrated the Search & Rescue techniques at GSSS, Garacharma, Port Blair.
