Port Blair, Nov 18: An awareness camp targeting at alcoholism, tobacco consumption and drug abuse was conducted by Nancowrie Police at Kamorta Bazaar in the presence of Dr. Siddharaju, CMO, Smti. Aysha Majeed, CTC, Kamorta and SI. M. Saravanan, SHO Nancowrie. In the beginning of awareness camp Dr. Siddharaju, CMO briefly explained the diseases and disorders caused by consumption of tobacco such as mouth cancer, cardiac problems, reduced immunity etc. He also talked about the ill effects of consumption of liquor and drug abuse and urged people in general and youth in particular to abstain from these Smti. Aysha Majeed delivered her speech in Nicobari language and assured her support and cooperation in the fight against consumption of alcohol, tobacco and drugs in tribal community.SHO Nancowery, SI, M. Saravanan, too, gave a talk on the bad effects of alcoholism on society and explained to people how alcoholism causes disruptions in family life and leads to problems of domestic violence, abandonment of children, road accidents, suicides etc. All the speakers urged the youth and children in particular to stay away from consumption of alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
