Port Blair, June 04: It was a historic day for the Islands as two Great Andamanese tribal boys, first time ever have successfully completed their tenth class CBSE examination. Kumar Olake, 16 yrs and Kumar Deepak (Eraph), 17 yrs have passed out class 10 examinations-2012 with 76% and 60% marks respectively. Another boy, Kumar B. A. Kishen Singh (Biyae), 19 yrs has successfully completed one year training programme in Welder (G&E) trade from Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Dollygunj.
At a function at Raj Niwas, the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM today felicitated these Great Andamanese boys for their academic/vocational achievements and gave away cash award of Rs 5000 each. Interacting with them, he expressed his happiness over the achievements of these Great Andamanese tribal boys and congratulated the parents, schools and teachers who have helped these boys to achieve the milestone. “It is sheer hard work, perseverance and commitment on the part of these tribal boys that they have achieved success in their academics”, he said and added that the achievements of these Great Andamanese boys will further motivate and encourage other tribal students of the Islands to do well. He also assured every possible assistance from the Administration for the up-liftment of the Great Andamanese population in the Islands.
He directed the Secretary (TW) to visit Strait Island and address the issues and problems pertaining to schools, accommodation, medical and other such related issues of the Great Andamanese people on priority.
The Chief Secretary, Mr. Anand Prakash was also present at the function.
