Port Blair, Nov. 11: The Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, accompanied by the First Lady, Smt. Prem Mukhi visited Diglipur today.
The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray and the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar were also present on the occasion. The Lt. Governor laid the foundation stone for the road at Krishnapuri and D.B. Gram, Diglipur. He also held a meeting with the PRIs, general public and HoDs at APWD Guest House, Diglipur, wherein he gave patient hearing to the grievances of PRIs as well as general public and issued on the spot directions to the concerned officials.
The length of the road from Krishnapuri to Nayadera is 4.03 KM with 2Nos Bridge and 29 Nos culverts. The estimated cost of the project is 12.22 Crores. This road will be constructed with Central Road Fund(CRF) and the constructing authority is responsible for the maintenance of the road for 5 years after construction. The Length of the road from D B Gram to Laxmipur main road Via 7 family is 3.66 KM with 7Nos of Culverts. The cost of the project is 5.8Crore. The completion period of this road project is 12 months. This road will be constructed by PMGSY fund
While interacting with the general public at Krishnapuri and D.B.Gram, the Lt. Governor stated that development of the Islands is his highest priority and appreciated the Administration for providing services even in the remotest areas. He further directed the local officials to interact with local public more often through PRIs and resolve the local issues. The Lt. Governor highlighted the ill-effects of tobacco and alcohol and said strict action will be taken on those who are still engaged in sale and purchase of tobacco. He called upon general public to eradicate the menace of alcohol and tobacco. He also mentioned that consumption of liquor will be brought down by increasing excise duty and taking other appropriate policy measures.
The Lt. Governor also announced that no new bar licenses will be given and the existing bar licenses will be scrutinized at the time of renewal.
