Port Blair, Nov 07: The Port Management Board has organised a programme today at the Conference Hall of the PMB in connection with the Vigilance Awareness Week – 2016.
The theme of this year’s Vigilance Awareness Week “Public Participation in Promoting Integrity and Eradicating Corruption” was the topic on which the programme was held. Dr R.D. Tripathi, Chief Port Administrator, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while addressing the officers and staff, said that general public should function as watchdog to minimise corruption prevailing in the society. He said that every public servant is supposed to be honest and sincere in their work.
He informed that the PMB is going to computerise its functioning which will in the long run provide the easy transaction of work in the PMB without the port users and others waiting and queeing up in the office.
He called upon the officers and employees of Port Management Board to do their work without any fear or favour and with the ultimate goal of helping the public. Addressing the function Comdt.R.K. Vishwakarma, Harbour Master emphasised the need to have a speedy redressal of grievances of employees and general public. He asked the officers and staff of PMB to maintain punctuality.
Shri D. Ayyappan, Nodal Officer (Court Cases) of PMB while initiating the discussion, elaborately explained the legal framework for fighting corruption in the country and said that despite enactment of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and other legislations and also various provisions in the Indian Penal Code, public servants tend to indulge in corruption.
Shri H.S. Pabla, Asst. Engineer (P&S) also spoke on the occasion explained the tendering process, etc followed in the PMB. Lt. Cdr. Mohan Kumar.B who proposed vote of thanks, emphasised the need to put in place a mechanism to ensure that all the employees do their work in time and properly. Earlier, Shri Abdul Gaffar, Asst. Director (Admn) welcomed the gathering.
