Port Blair, Nov 4: A series of projects benefitting the rural populace of South andaman will come up soon at Ferrargunj area under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), the foundation for which was laid by the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray during his visit to the area yesterday. The Deputy Commissioner South Andaman, Shri Udit Prakash Rai, the Up- Adhyaksh ZPSA, Smt. Bhageshwari, Shri Sandeep Biswas, Pramukh, Ferrargunj, Shri Muneeshwaran, Pradhan Ferrargunj, Shri Goutam Sarkar, Samiti Member Ferrargunj and Smt. Sarofina, Ward Member, Mile Tilak were present on the occasion.
The Member of Parliament started his visit from Jirkatang where an Eco –Friendly Hut and Handicraft Stall, created by the Forest Department was inaugurated. The Hut will benefit the commuters and the tourists crossing ATR and the handicraft stall will enable the tourists purchase handicraft items prepared by the Self Help Groups (SHGs). Thereafter, Shri Ray laid foundation for the expansion of playground near Jai Ganesh House at Veterinary Mile Tilak. Apart from this, foundation stone was also laid for construction of an Anganwadi Centre at Mile Tilak. Thereafter, the Member of Parliament laid foundation stones for an Auto Stand to accommodate 15 autos, Vegetable Market and Toilet Blocks (Orissa Pattern) at Ferrargunj.
Apart from this, foundations were laid for addition/alteration of the disaster management hall to accommodate four class rooms in VKZPV Ferrargunj under Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund, de-silting and renovation of existing well at Ward No. 3 Ferrargunj. Shri Ray also inaugurated drip irrigation system in the land of Gandhiparai under Ferrargunj gram Panchayat. He also inaugurated a renovated Anganwadi at Aniket village.
In his address on the occasion, the Member of Parliament apprised the gathering about various people oriented schemes brought out by the Central Govt. for the benefit of the poorest of the poor and downtrodden in the society. He urged the villagers to take benefit from the schemes to improve their living conditions. He said, Central Govt. is committed towards the welfare of the rural people and many of the schemes have been devised keeping in mind the uplifting the rural poor, he added.
He also enlightened the gathering about Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan or Yojana a new initiative of the Narendra Modi Government launched on June 9, 2016. The scheme has been launched with the objective of boosting the health care facilities for the pregnant women, especially the poor. He said under the Abhiyan, the pregnant ladies will be given free health check-up and required treatments for free on 9th of every month. The scheme will enable the pregnant women avail benefits in all Government hospitals across the country. The scheme will provide free checkup to the pregnant women assuring their good health and birth of a healthy child. Some of the main objectives of the scheme are: providing a healthy life to the pregnant women, lowering the maternity mortality rate, making pregnant women aware of their health issues/diseases and making sure safe delivery and healthy life of the baby, he added. He urged for creating awareness about this and to take benefit from this scheme.
The MP also informed about the ANISHI scheme, the first of its kind insurance scheme in A&N Islands for the benefit of the Islanders. A good number of people have been benefitted from this scheme, he added.
In his address on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Udit Prakash Rai thanked the Member of Parliament for laying the foundation stones for the projects under Saansad Adarsh gram Yojana (SAGY). He said the projects to be initiated under SAGY will be taken up under the guidance of the Member of Parliament.
