Port Blair, Nov 04: The National Seafarer Union of India has organized a black flag agitation in front of the DSS in protest of the decision taken by the DSS for extending the 3 months tenure of Contractual CDC holders to 6 months.
More than 10-15 Permanent CDC holders staged protest in front of the DSS office this morning at around 11:00 am to 01:00 pm.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Branch Representative, NUSI, Mr Dharvinder Ram said that even after repeated suggestions given by the Union of the adverse effect that will hit the livelihood of the Permanent Rosters crew if the time period of the contractual crews is extended, the DSS has implemented this new rule and that too without taking the opinion of the NUSI to which we object strongly.
“If the Administration doesn’t withdraw the decision taken in the favor of the Contractual CDC holders, NUSI with the permanent rosters of both Foreshore as well as Mainland sectors will continue the agitation,” said Mr Dharvinder Ram.
Earlier on 1st November 2016, the Directorate of Shipping Services had ordered that the article period of the contract crew is increased from the present 3 months to 6 months w.e.f 01.11.2016 and the same arrangement will be reviewed after six months for any course correction envisaged.
