Port Blair, Nov 02: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair celebrated the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Pakhwara from 16.10.2016 to 31.10.2016. During the fortnightly long celebration various programme viz. cleanliness drive, poster/ essay/elocution competition for school Childrens’, post diwali cleaning of the campus, clean/green farming at Bachrapahar village, solid and wet waste management by PBMC team were organised. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Pakhwara concluded with the valedictory function held on 01.11.2016 at CIARI Conference Hall, wherein, Shri. Yashpal Garg, Secretary, PBMC was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the efforts of CIARI for conducting such type of awareness programme for the farmers, school childrens’, hotels/restaurants and employee of the institute. He urged that it is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to take active role in maintaining their home and surrounding neat and clean and spread the message of SBM. He also elaborated the various programmes and schemes of the PBMC for maintaining the Port Blair city clean and green. Dr. S. Dam Roy informed that the fortnight long celebration started on 16th October which has been celebrated as World Food Day. He appreciated the organising team for meticulous planning and execution of the programmes during the fortnight long celebration. He urged all the staff members to continue the activities under SBM to accomplish the goal of Swachh Bharat by 2019. On the occasion prizes and certificates were also distributed to the school children’s from Mahatma Gandhi International School, St. Mary’s School, Saraswati Shishu Mandir, GSSS, School Line for participating in various competitions. Awards were also given to the different section/divisions of CIARI for adjudging as the swachh division during the period. The whole programme was coordinated by Dr. Jai Sunder, Nodal Officer, SBM, ICAR-CIARI and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. P.K. Singh.
