Port Blair, Oct 27: During the visit of Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament to Haddo Jetty (Gate No.4) on 26.10.2016 and 27.10.2016, good number of labours working in the jetty for loading and unloading of cargo goods importing from mainland bounded ships, interacted with him and reported about various problems being faced by them in the presence of Chief Port Administrator Shri RD Thripathi and demanded construction of Shed for labours at Haddo Jetty near Gate No.4, Providing safe drinking water facilities for labours and construction of toilet block for labours near jetty.
After hearing the demands and with the intervention of the Member of Parliament, the Chief Port Administrator has assured the labours in presence of MP to fulfill above said demands at the earliest as possible.
Apart from this, the Member of Parliament also explained the labours about the incentives and benefits provided by the Modi Govt. for the labours under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Bhima Yojana (PMJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bhima Yojana (PMSBY) and asked them to avail the schemes.
However, due to unaware of the concept of the said scheme by the labours working in the jetty more than 1000 in numbers, the Member of Parliament immediately requested the Bank Officials of SBI to explain about the PMJBY/PMSBY scheme to cover all the labours under the scheme.
The officials lead by Lead Bank Manager and Branch Manager, SBI Port Blair interacted the labours at Haddo Jetty and explained about the scheme and circulated the forms to the labours for availing schemes.
On this action towards the welfare, the Labours working in the Jetty have expressed their happiness to the Member of Parliament, CPA, PMB and Bank officials.
