Port Blair, Oct 26: The TSG family headed by Mr G.Bhasker, Vice President, All India Chess Federation and former President of Andaman & Nicobar Olympic Association felicitated Miss Dipa Karmakar, 22 year old Indian Gymnast who represented India in Summer Olympic 2016 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Awardee on Wednesday. She is currently in the city on a visit to these islands. At a function held at Hotel TSG Emerald View, she was presented an amount of Rs 50,000/- by Mr Bhasker on behalf of TSG Family for her outstanding achievement at the Rio Olympics.
During her interaction, Ms Karmakar shared her experience in the Rio Olympics and motivated all sports persons of these islands to achieve better performance in the field of sports. Mr Mohammed Jadwet, former President, Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Mr Girish Arora, President, ACCI were also present on the occasion.
Dipa Karmakar is the first Indian female gymnast ever to compete in the Olympics as well as the first Indian Gymnast to do in 52 years. She attained 4th position in Women’s Vault Gymnastics event of Rio Olympics 2016.
