Port Blair, Oct 25: The NGO Butterflies organized an Awareness Campaign on International Girl Child Day at Community Hall, Attam Pahard with the purpose of creating awareness among children and general public on empowering adolescence girl.
The campaign consisted of various programnmes like Awareness session, thematic rally/dances and Nukkad natak on girl child issues like impact of child marriage.
Total 100 children from different villages of south Andaman participated in campaign and disseminated message of need for empowering girl child and gender equality in society. This programmes was supported by CIAI (for all the children of the world) Italy, Department of Police ANI and Panchayat, Garacharma.
The program was inaugurated by Shri. Ajay Rai, DSP South Andaman and Shri. D Roy, Director ICIAR. The event made colorful with the presence Mr. Matteo Levi, Country Representative CIARI, Mr. Sino P. Kurian, Program manager of Butterflies and Sub Inspector Agnes and Jyothi. All the guests were interacted with children and highlighted the need for girl child empowerment. The event came to an end with vote of thanks by Ms.Latika Singh, Field Coordinator.
