Port Blair, Oct 19: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Rangat in collaboration with Bharat Seva Youth Club, Swadeshnagar observed World Toilets Day on Wednesday at Gram Panchayat, Swadeshnagar in which 50 participants from the nearest area participated. Mr Jayanto Nath, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Swadeshnagar was the chief guest on the occasion and flagged off the rally from Govt. Primary School, Swadeshnagar to Gram Panchayat, Swadeshnagar. The participants displayed banner and placards during the rally in order to create awareness among people. The participants gathered at the Panchayat Bhavan where Mr Suren Das, Teacher in charge of Govt. Primary School, Swadeshnagar delivered speech on the importance of the day. And he also spoke about Swatcch Bharat Mission and the scheme/facilities being run/given by panchayat for construction of Toilets. He also highlighted the ill effect of open defecation. On the other hand the chief guest in his address stressed not to use for open defecation and told that this panchayat has already constructed 30 nos of toilets for needy persons under Swatcch Bharat Mission and there are proposals to make community toilets in future. Taking the advantage of the day the chief guest also spoke about intoxication prevailed in youths. Mr Ratin Mondal, Secretary, Bharat Seva Youth Club, Swadeshnagar proposed the vote of thanks.
