Reconstituted IMPCC Meet Held
Port Blair, May 31: The first meeting of the reconstituted Inter Media Publicity Coordinatin Committee (IMPCC) was held at Doordarshan Kendra at Port Blair on 30th last. Addressing the meet, the Committee chairman and Director of Doordarshan, R Mohan called upon the members to optimize the use of electronic media to publicize various welfare programmes of the Government. He said the IMPCC acts as a common platform among different Government departments, Media Units and Public Sector Units and the people for exchange of information and plan for suitable multi media campaigns to make the people aware of various initiatives taken by the government for people at grass root level.
During the deliberations of the meet, the Joint Director of Agriculture, Dr Pandey Informed that the high value coconut mission launched in Car Nicobar has been highly successful and yielded remarkable results and asked for special media focus on the mission. The Doordarshan Director assured that he would take necessary steps to produce special documentary film on the mission in the tribal islands for telecast through national channels. Briefing on the activities of Fisheries survey ofIndia, the Zonal Director of Fisheries Survey of India, Ramalingam informed that the organization conducts Open houses on regular basis for the fishermen and the people to know about their surveys and get their benefits.
The Chairman informed that the committee selected World environment day, Sarvashiksha Abhiyan and Right to Education as major themes for the coverage by the media units during the month of June, Talking about the importance of the themes selected, the Assistant Director of Press Information Bureau(PIB), A Dhanasekaran informed that the islands made a remarkable achievement under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) by enrolling all the children of primitive tribe ONGES in to schools. He said all the 38 Onges children got enrolled in to the school at their habitat, Dugong Creek in Little Andaman. Besides, the primary school there has been upgraded to elementary school to provide uninterrupted education to the tribal children. He also emphasized proper publicity on Right to Education act by the media units and the press, so as to enable the poor children to get admission in to private school under the provision of allotment 25 per cent seats for poor children in all private schools.
While thanking the members, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, DVS Deep asked the member departments to approach All India Radio for their special publicity needs. He said apart from news bulletins, the AIR broadcast several news based programmes, which can be used to high light the achievements made under different government schemes.
Heads and representatives of different Government departments and media units attended the meet, The next IMPCC meet will be held at Directorate of Agriculture on 29th June.(PIB)
