
Port Blair, Oct 18: The President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma has invited the attention of the Chief Engineer, APWD towards the pathetic condition of the roads in Andaman particularly the Andaman Truck road. In a letter to the Chief Engineer, Mr Sharma said that the incessant rains in the recent days have damaged the tar roads at many places. The Andaman Trunk Road, which is the life line of Middle and North Andaman is the worst affected road. A large number of potholes have come up at many places and the top layer of stones has been uprooted. The condition of the road is posing danger to the commuters on the road and motorists have been facing countless problems negotiating with the dilapidated stretch; some have met with fatal accidents. Frequent breakdown and repairs of vehicles are being reported causing huge financial losses to the vehicle owners, he said stating that repair and maintenance of the road network particularly ATR has become imperative for the general public of Middle & North Andaman. He urged the APWD Chief Engineer to take immediate steps for repair and maintenance of damaged roads, particularly the Andaman Trunk Road.
