
Port Blair, Oct 18: In order to assess the demand-supply gap in providing water to the urban population, Mr B. Eswar Rao, Chairperson, PBMC personally inspected the Dhanikari Dam on Tuesday along with a team of councilors and officers of PBMC. It was noticed that the earlier capacity of the Dam was 4370 ML. Having raised the capacity, presently the dam including the catchment area holds 8544 ML water. Under such circumstances, preliminary assessment showed that daily supply of water is within the ambit of PBMC subject to the condition that adequate supply is ensured by the APWD.
During earlier inspection at various facilities of water distribution pertaining to APWD, water treatment plant at Lambaline was also inspected by the Chairperson alongwith Councilors and officers of the Council in presence of representative of APWD and it was observed that the filter beds have not been dedicated for the service to the citizens. Chairperson, PBMC desired that the said filter beds may be operationalize so that the deficiency in daily supply of water could be addressed to. Subsequently necessary instructions were issued to the water section of the Council to moot a proposal to be implemented in the immediate future so that the objective of daily water supply to the citizens of the PBMC area is accomplished.
