
Port Blair, Oct 17: The Lt Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi today visited Municipal Wards No. 9, 14 and 15. The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, PBMC Chairperson, Shri B. Eswar Rao, Commissioner–cum Secretary, APWD, Shri Sanjeev Khirwar, Secretary PBMC, Shri Yashpal Garg, Ward Councillor Ward No 15, Shri CH Babu, Ward Councillor Ward No. 9, Ms Anusia Devi, Chief Engineer APWD, Shri Mathura Prasad were present during the visit of the Lt Governor.
The Lt Governor firstly visited the APWD Water Treatment Plant at Lamba Line where the Member of Parliament and PBMC Chairperson urged the Lt Governor to issue appropriate directions to release 30MLD treated water from the APWD plant to PBMC so that it can start daily water supply to the residents of Municipal Wards. After giving a patient hearing, the Lt Governor directed the senior officials of the Administration, APWD and PBMC to hold a meeting and discuss the matter to reach at appropriate decisions. Expressing his displeasure on the non-functioning of the Digital Meters since 2012, in the command water tanks of the APWD, the Lt Governor directed the Chief Engineer to immediately set right the Digital Meters.
Thereafter, the Lt Governor visited Seva Niketan, an Orphanage at Dairy Farm. He also interacted with the authorities of the Home and enquired about the amenities being provided to the inmates. The Lt Governor also visited the Urban Health Centre at Dairy Farm. Responding to the demands of the PBMC Chairperson, the Lt Governor ordered immediate disposal of unserviceable items dumped in a room of the UHC, and the room, he said, could be used for the benefit of the visiting patients. He also directed the concerned authorities for immediate restoration of Lab facility and providing services of a staff nurse in this UHC.
Later, the Lt Governor visited Japan Road; and on the request of the Member of Parliament and PBMC Chairperson, he directed the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman and the Chief Engineer, APWD to see the feasibility to provide connectivity from Japan Road to Ram Mandir for the benefit of the residents of that area. On the demand of land transfer to PBMC at Dairy Farm to create parking facility in PPP mode, the Lt Governor directed the Chairperson to prepare a viable and concrete proposal for its execution.
