Port Blair, Oct 12: It’s that time of the year when Port Blairians deck up in all their finery to usher in one of the grandest festivals -Durga Puja.
Celebrations began on 07/10/2016 evening, with dazzling lights, grand stages and a sea of devotees taking to the streets of the city.
People from across faiths joined in to participate in the revelery, even as elegantly draped idols of Ma Durga adorned the many heavily-embellished puja pandals.
The excitement was much the same in other parts of these Islands too.
The gathering of devotees in various Pandal at the Port Blair City like Bengali Club, Bhathubasthi, Chouldary etc was amazing.
Sindur Khela was organized in most of the Pandals today,
The festivities touched a new high at Diglipur, where thousands of public gathered at the Pandals. Devotees bade farewell, as idols of goddess Durga and her children were immersed on Wednesday at Sea on Vijaya Dashami, bringing to an end of five days of revelry and celebration associated with Durga .
There was a festive look during the procession of idols.
Before immersion, married Bengali women smear Sindur on each other’s faces during sindur khela on Vijaya Dashami at Pandals.
This time we have also seen a good traffic arrangement by the Andaman & Nicobar Police. Dry Day too helped the police to maintain the law and order in the city.
